CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Monsters, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, defeated the Hershey Bears on Saturday night at Giant Center by a final score of 5-2. With the win, the Monsters improve to 9-7-1-0 overall this season and with 19 points, remain alone in second place in the AHL's North Division standings.

Cleveland captain Nathan Gerbe netted a short-handed goal from Alex Broadhurst at 8:32 of the opening frame, giving the road team an early 1-0 edge. Hershey evened the score moments later when Riley Barber scored at 10:06 before Mike Sgarbossa pushed the Bears in front, 2-1, on an even-strength tally at 15:45.

In the middle frame, the Monsters pulled even, 2-2, thanks to a five-on-five finish from Kevin Stenlund at 1:24 of the period with assists from Gerbe and Vitaly Abramov. Cleveland reclaimed the lead at 2:23 courtesy of Adam Clendening's first goal of the season, an even-strength marker from Sonny Milano and Broadhurst to give the Monsters a 3-2 advantage. Tommy Cross extended the Monsters lead to 4-2 on a power-play goal at 10:20 of the period, with assists from Milano and Clendening.

Cross closed the scoring in the final frame, picking up his second goal of the evening at 16:45 on feeds from Abramov and Stenlund to secure the Monsters 5-2 road win.

Cleveland goaltender Jean-Francois Berube stopped 19 of 21 shots to improve to 5-5-1 on the season, while Bears netminder Parker Milner stopped 33 of the 38 pucks he faced, dropping to 2-1-0 on the year.
