POSTGAME QUOTES

San Diego Gulls

Reto Berra

On the win

It was a huge two points and a huge win, and we came out strong with a really good first period I thought. It wasn't a pretty game, the ice was bad and the puck was bouncing, but we were battling and we were fighting and I think we deserve the two pints at the end. Lately we have had some bad luck. We lost a couple times in OT so it was a big win for us tonight.

On his performance tonight

I am happy with my performance tonight and the guys especially today in front of me took rebounds away and helped me a lot. I felt I had a couple really juicy rebounds laying right in front of me and they were right there blocking shots. It's a big team win for us tonight.

Giovanni Fiore

On the game

We started off the game with purpose and we had intentions. We're satisfied but we could still be better for the next game. I'd say our compete level (was a key). We were competing tonight hard and we were trying to win every battle. We had and I feel that we were good.

On his setting the rookie record for goals in a season

It is exciting but at the same time playoffs are around the corner so I'm not thinking too hard on that. Staying on the game page and just focusing on the future.

On preparing for the weekend back-to-back

We are going to have a good week at practice and just be ready to go and be ready to compete this weekend.

Head Coach Dallas Eakins

On the game

I thought we really came out gunning there in the first period and I thought our guys were really committed to turning the tide. You don't want to be on the wrong side of too many close games like we have been lately.

On the penalty kill and Reto Berra

Our penalty kill has been excellent for a very long time now. Both of our goalies are playing well, Yogi (Reto Berra) again tonight, Kevin (Boyle) has played well, and even though we gave one up there we were in the right spot. It just happened to hit our stick and go in the net. Something that is very important down the stretch, the special teams and something that we will continue to work on.

On killing off the double-minor penalty in the second period

It was (a big moment), but it hurt us too. We are running like five penalty killers out there and every time they go out they are digging the hole a little deeper with the reserves. We can't take penalties like that. It was good that our guys spoke among themselves about it during the period and I don't expect to see that again.

On Giovanni Fiore

As of late, especially the last three weeks he has really taken a big step forward. I think he was playing well earlier but he has really established himself in our lineup. He is really dedicated to his craft, right from his rest, his nutrition, his training and right to his work in practice. When you take that approach and that discipline to do that every day, this is what happens, good things are going to happen.
