ECHL Bakersfield Condors

Guinness Book of World Records Ups the Ante

December 15, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, just days before a scheduled attempt to set the Guinness Book of World Records mark for the largest pillow fight, have learned that the current record stands at nearly 3,000 participants. The Condors Pillow Fight Night is this Saturday, sponsored by WB- TV 12 and The Big 96.5 FM.

When the event was scheduled in the summer, the record stood at just 1,074, a respectable total, but one that was unquestionably within the reach of the community-conscious Condors faithful. But like a bird of prey snatching its quarry from another predator, a group out of Dodgeville, Wisconsin reset the record just a few months ago on September 29th, amassing a total of 2,773 people participating in the pillow fight. The Condors record attempt will include collection of the pillows for the Bakersfield Homeless Shelter and other organizations around town.

"I have no idea where Dodgeville is," said Condors President Matthew Riley. "But kudos to them for a wonderful turnout. They have set the bar rather high, and it makes it that much more important that we have the commitment from our fans to pull through. This charity event has the makings of a historical night, and we need everyone to summon their inner strength and rise up. Ration your pillows! Alert the press! Call upon your neighbors! It is only through solidarity that we can claim our rightful place in World History."

The pillow fight will be held during the first intermission. An announcement will be made to clear out of the stands if you don't wish to participate. Upon the command of the PA Announcer, the fight will commence and last for 60 seconds. When the minute is up, all pillows will be thrown onto the ice, where they will be collected and counted for statistical verification. Participants will also be asked to submit their name for further proof of the record attempt. If enough proof is not collected, the record bid may be rejected by the folks at Guinness.

Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Centennial Garden on Saturday night against the Idaho Steelheads. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. The Condors are in Las Vegas for two games this week on Thursday and Friday. Both games start at 7:00 p.m. and can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230.

Condors Serov Suspended by the League

The ECHL announced on Wednesday that Bakersfield left wing Vlad Serov has been suspended for three games as a result of his actions in ECHL Game #276 against Greenville on December 11. At 19:18 of the first period, Serov was assessed a 10- minute misconduct and a game misconduct under Rule 76(a) Physical Abuse of Officials. Serov is suspended three games under Rule 33A Supplemental Discipline. He will miss all three games this week.

It's not too late to secure premium seat locations for 2004-2005 Condors season by purchasing a Condors Mini-plan. Also, what better place to have a Christmas party than at a Condors game? The Condors offer group discounts for fans that plan on attending a Condors game with friends, family, or co- workers. Contact the Condors office at 324-PUCK (7825) for more information.
