
San Diego Looks To Finish Long Homestand With Another Win

SAN DIEGO â The San Diego Gulls look to close out their season-long homestand and jump ahead in the West Division standings as they take on their So Cal rival Long Beach Ice Dogs tonight at the Sports Arena.
SERIES HISTORY:
The Gulls and Ice Dogs have met once so far this season with Long Beach holding an early 1-0-0 series edge. The two teams will meet six more times in the regular season. San Diego and Long Beach met 10 times last season with the Gulls holding a 9-0-1 edge.
2004-05 HEAD-TO-HEAD SERIES:

San Diego owns the all-time series match-up, posting a 36-11-2 record against its West Division rival. The Gulls are 20-3-1 all-time against the Ice Dogs at the Sports Arena. San Diego is unbeaten in 23 of its last 24 head-to-head meetings against Long Beach (22-1-1)...
LAST HEAD-TO-HEAD MEETING (OCT. 22 @ LBH):
Marco Rosa tallied a goal and an assist while goaltender Chris Madden stopped all 31 shots, leading the Ice Dogs to a 3-0 shutout against the Gulls in the season opener. Long Beach opened a 1-0 lead 8:33 into the first period on Joe Cardarelli's power-play goal and made it a two-goal lead on Even Cheverie's power-play marker 2:34 into the second. That's how the game stayed until Rosa sealed the Long Beach victory midway through the third period. The loss broke a 23-game unbeaten streak the Gulls had over the Ice Dogs, which dated back to Oct. 26, 2002.
GULLS UPDATE:
The Gulls (10-7-2) enter the day sixth in the West Division with 22 points, seven behind the first-place Bakersfield Condors... A win tonight will move San Diego into fifth place... The Gulls have still played the fewest games in the division. They have played one fewer game than Bakersfield (29 points), two fewer than the Idaho Steelheads (second place with 27 points), three fewer than Long Beach (third place with 26 points), four fewer than the Alaska Aces (fourth place with 25 points) and three fewer than the Las Vegas Wranglers (fifth place with 23 points)... San Diego is 9-2-1 at home this season and 1-5-1 on the road... In their 10 wins, the Blue and Orange have outscored their opponents 50-22. They've been outscored 31-13 in their nine losses (which includes an overtime and shootout loss)... The Gulls were also 10-7-2 through 19 games last season... So far San Diego is 6-2-0 on its nine-game homestand, which concludes tonight... The Gulls will play their next six games on the road...
OTHER NOTES:
Max Birbraer is in the midst of a six-game point streak, notching 13 points (6g, 7a) during that span. He's recorded seven of those points (2g, 5a) in the last two games... Birbraer has also taken over the Gulls scoring lead with 19 points overall (7g, 12a)... Sean O'Connor has a five-game point streak, with 11 points (7g, 4a) and two game-winning goals during that span... San Diego won its 500th game in franchise history Thursday, which includes both regular season and playoff totals...
LONG BEACH UPDATE:
Long Beach (12-8-2) has won its last three games and begins the day third in the West Division, three points back of Bakersfield and one point behind Idaho... Before their three-game winning streak, the Ice Dogs were winless in six games (0-4-2)... NHL veteran Bill Lindsay, who signed with Long Beach on Friday, has three points (2g, 1a) in three games. Lindsay has 777 games of NHL experience, playing for Quebec, Florida, Calgary, San Jose, Montreal and Atlanta... Chris Kenady leads the club with 21 points (13g, 8a)...
TRANSACTIONS:
Mathieu Chouinard was loaned to the American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks Friday... Cincinnati assigned goaltender Eddy Ferhi Friday... Sean Murphy, suffering from a fractured knuckle, remains on the 30-day injured list...
