Gladiators Power Past IceGators, 3-1

The Gwinnett Gladiators used three power play goals to knock off the Louisiana IceGators 3-1 on Wednesday night at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana.

The Gladiators took a 1-0 lead on Mike Stathopoulos' 3rd goal of the season on the power play. Stathopoulos ripped the puck past Louisiana netminder Nathan Marsters from the left wing circle. Peter Flache and Jim Jackson picked up the assists on the tally at 8:54 of the opening period. Marsters turned aside 8 Gladiators shots on a 7-minute power play including a handful on a Gwinnett 5-on-3 advantage before Stathopoulos solved the netminder.

Louisiana knotted the game at 1-1 at 13:56 of the first period. Wes Mason slipped past the Gwinnett defense and beat Gladiators netminder Sean Fields to the far post underneath the netminder's right pad for the tally. Josh Barker and Troy Smith picked up the assists on the Louisiana goal.

Adam Smyth broke the 1-1 tie with his 2nd goal of the season on a Gladiators power play at 16:22 of the first period. Smyth took a centering pass from Kris Goodjohn and ripped the puck under the shoulder of Marsters for the tally. Joe Bourne also picked up an assist on the goal for the Gladiators.

Following a scoreless second period, Jim Jackson rounded out the scoring with his 3rd goal of the season. Jackson ripped a slap-shot from the high slot past Marsters for the tally. Mike Vigilante and Cam Brown added the assists on the power play goal for the Gladiators at 8:47 of the third period.

The Gladiators scored all three goals in the win on the power play while Sean Fields made 16 saves to help the Gladiators improve to 14-5-4 on the season.
