Utah Grizzlies News Release
Bakersfield, California - The Utah Grizzlies defeated the Bakersfield Condors 5-2 Friday night at Rabobank Arena.
Reining ECHL Goaltender of the Week Aaron Dell improved to 13-3-0-1, by stopping 17 of 19 Condors shots.
Utah extended their season-high unbeaten streak to seven games at 6-0-1-0 as they also improve to a league-best 12-2-2-2 since Christmas.
"It was a good character win tonight," said Grizzlies Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham "We played a solid road game, I'm proud of their effort."
Utah took a 1-0 lead 7:48 into the first period on Danick Paquette's 10th goal of the year on a great setup in transition from David Vallorani that was led up ice by Phil Mangan. The Condors though added two late goals to lead 2-1 going to the second period.
The Grizzlies though came quickly out of the gates in the second period to score two goals on special teams and quickly regain the lead. Martin Lee led a shorthanded rush up ice and fed Danick Paquette who was denied, but Lee and Jamie MacQueen hacked at the loose puck and MacQueen scored his 14th of the year to tie the game at two.
The Grizzlies reclaimed the lead on a power-play goal by Michael Pelech 6:05 into the third period. The Grizzlies held the puck in for the first 1:19 of the power-play and after several chances scored on Pelech's third effort in front of the net as Phil Mangan and Mathieu Aubin drew assists.
Utah killed three penalties with the 3-2 lead before Mathieu Aubin took a feed on a two-on-one rush from Jamie MacQueen to make it 4-2 with 10:39 left in regulation.
Aubin added another into an empty net with 27 seconds remaining for his 10th of the year and to cap off his three point night with two goals and one assist.
Four other Utah players had multiple-points with Jamie MacQueen (one goal, one assist), Phil Mangan (two assists), Michael Pelech (one goal, one assist) and Danick Paquette (one goal, one assist) all collecting multiple-point games.
