Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas - The Las Vegas Wranglers rode a two-goal first period to a 5-2 win over the Western Conference Leading Ontario Reign on Friday night. In front of an all-time record 7,786 fans, Vegas goaltender Travis Fullerton stopped 47 of 49 shots on the night in his first win since Dec. 11, 2013.
In front of the largest home crowd of the season, Wranglers' forward Justin Bernhardt got the scoring going with his second goal of the year, assisted by Chad Nehring (5) and Robbie Smith (4). With just 3:09 left in the period, Adam Hughesman made it a 2-0 lead with his team leading 12th score of the season with assists from John Armstrong (8) and Matt Tassone (12).
Adam Huxley then made it a 3-0 lead off a nifty feed from Anthony Perdicaro. For Huxley, it was goal number five on the season, as the Wranglers took a three-goal advantage into the 2nd intermission.
Las Vegas would add to their lead however, as just 24 seconds into the final frame Justin Berhnardt potted his second of the night and third of the year, making it a 4-0 lead. Ontario's Mario Lamoreux would put the Reign on the board shortly after, as just four minutes later he nabbed his team-leading 16th score of the year to make it a three goal game. Chad Nehring then put the Wranglers up 5-1 with his fourth goal of the season and third point on the night (1G, 2A). Ontario would grab one more before the final horn sounded, as Gasper Kopitar's second tally of the season cut the lead to 5-2.
Las Vegas now has three wins in their last eight games after going winless over a 10 game stretch through early January. The full box score of tonight's game can be found here.
The Wranglers and Reign will go at it again tomorrow night before the Colorado Eagles come to town on Tuesday Feb. 4 and Wednesday Feb. 5. The seven-game home stand then comes to a close the following weekend with games against the Utah Grizzlies (Friday Feb. 7, Saturday Feb. 8) and Bakersfield Condors (Sunday Feb. 9).
