Grizzlies Sign Goaltender Mitch O'Keefe

West Valley City, Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley announced today that the team has signed goaltender Mitch O'Keefe to a contract for the 2009-2010 season.

O'Keefe played most of last year with the ECHL's Elmira Jackals going 16-12-2 with a 3.16 goals-against-average and a .888 save percentage. He also played six games for Binghamton of the American Hockey League; compiling a 2.10 goals-against-average and a .943 save percentage. In two games with the AHL's Iowa Stars in 2007-2008, following college at Ferris State University, the Ontario native went 0-1 with a 2.35 goals-against-average and a .939 save percentage.

The 25-year-old joined the Grizzlies for practice at the E-Center this morning and will be in uniform when the team opens the regular season Friday in Las Vegas. The home opening E-Center weekend is Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24 when they will host Idaho.

Utah enters their fifth year in the ECHL and their third-straight season as an affiliate of the New York Islanders. On September 16, 2009, the Grizzlies announced that they will also be adding up to four prospects this season from the Calgary Flames. Head Coach Kevin Colley returns to the Utah bench this upcoming season after signing a multi-year contract extension on April 20, 2009. Colley, who at the age of 30 is the youngest coach in the ECHL, led the Grizzlies to the playoffs for the third time in four years during his rookie head coaching campaign.
