South Carolina Stingrays News Release

The Week That Was.

The Stingrays closed out the preseason with an 0-2 record versus Charlotte in a home-and-home series. On Friday night, the Stingrays scored three second period goals at Carolina Ice Palace in North Charleston, SC, but couldn't solve Checkers goaltender Billy Sauer in the third period as Charlotte skated away with a 5-3 victory. Keith Johnson, Lyon Messier and David Grimson each scored goals for the Stingrays in the loss. On Saturday afternoon at Extreme Ice Center in Indian River, NC, the Stingrays ran into the same situation as Sauer entered the third period blocking every opportunity and preserving a 3-2 Checkers win. Johnson earned his second goal of the preseason and Nikita Kashirsky added a short-handed marker. Both forwards finished the preseason with three points.

The Stingrays are putting the finishing touches on the celebrations scheduled for Opening Weekend. The celebration kicks off Friday, October 16 against Wheeling as the 2009 Kelly Cup Championship banner will be raised to the rafters for North Charleston Coliseum.
