West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies defeated the Alaska Aces 2-0 Wednesday night at Maverik Center.
Utah goaltender Igor Bobkov stopped all 29 shots that he saw in his first shutout of the year and Utah's third shutout in the last ten games from all three goaltenders.
"Tonight, he was just outstanding," said Head Coach/GM Tim Branham on Bobkov. "We broke down a couple times in the first, once in the second and a couple times in the third; it was great, he was phenomenal."
Michael Pelech gave Utah a 1-0 lead 5:04 into the second period as he picked up a loose puck at the blue line, fired it deep and then hammered in a rebound with Mathieu Aubin and Brent Gwidt also hacking in front.
"When you have Gwidt and Aubin going hard to the net, it's a pretty easy play to read just to get it there and I got a lucky bounce and ended up scoring the goal," said Pelech.
Utah made it 2-0 on the power-play when Kris Hogg tipped home a Teigan Zahn blast. Vinny Scarsella picked up an assist as well with 3:06 left in the second period.
"The guys came out hard to start the second period," said Branham. "I thought even though we didn't have a great period in the first, we still out shot them, we still out chanced them."
Utah drew seven of the 11 power-plays in the game.
The series with Alaska continues Friday and Saturday with the Aces. Face-off both nights is at 7:05 p.m.
Ticket packages for the 2013-2014 season are still on sale and start at just $29. For more information, visit http://www.utahgrizzlies.com or call (801) 988-7825.
