K-Wings and Bell's to Host Winter Ice Blue Ice Weekend
December 5, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- For the first-time ever the Kalamazoo Wings will team up with Bell's Brewery Inc. to create an exciting weekend of hockey and entertainment that the entire community of southwest Michigan can enjoy.
On Friday, December 20th and Saturday, December 21st, the K-Wings will host the Toledo Walleye during Bell's Winter White Blue Ice Weekend featuring Winter White ~ embrace winter.
The K-Wings, who are already known in the hockey world as the innovators of colored ice games, will be adding blue to celebrate Bell's winter time classic.
"We are very pleased to partner with an outstanding local company like Bell's," said Jim Burlew, K-Wings general Manager. "The K-Wings have a rich history with colored ice games and Bell's is furthering that legacy with our first ever Blue Ice event."
While the ice will be blue for both games, the K-Wings will be wearing special jerseys on Saturday, December 21st that will be auctioned after the game.
"It's going to be a fun, exciting family weekend -plenty for everyone. Winter White and the K-Wings are a perfect pairing" said Laura Bell, Bell's Vice President.
The blue ice will add to an already thrilling weekend of hockey and entertainment. One of the most beloved and hardnosed Detroit Red Wings of all-time, Darren McCarty, will be making a special appearance at Wings Stadium during the Kalamazoo Wings 7:30 p.m. contest on Friday, December 20th versus Toledo.
A four-time Stanley Cup winner (1997, 1998, 2002 and 2008) with the Detroit Red Wings, McCarty will be signing autographs and meeting with fans starting at 6:30 p.m. on December 20th.
During the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals versus the Philadelphia Flyers, McCarty's goal in game four proved to be the cup clinching tally. Besides the Red Wings, McCarty played two seasons with the Calgary Flames.
Bell's Winter White Ale takes its cues from Belgian-style white ales and offers a lighter and abundantly flavorful alternative to the more traditional heavy winter warmers available this time of year. Fermented with a Belgian ale yeast, this blend of barley and wheat malts yields a mixture of clove and fruity aromas, all without the use of any spices. Deliberately brewed to retain a cloudy appearance, Winter White Ale is a beer for embracing winter.
