Grizzlies Rally Late to Upend Beach Bums

SAUGET, IL - Chase Burch hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to give the Traverse City Beach Bums a 3-2 lead, but the Gateway Grizzlies scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to upend the Beach Bums 5-3 on Saturday night.
Trailing 2-0 into the top of the sixth inning, the Beach Bums cut into the Grizzlies lead as with one out, Marcus Nidiffer doubled. Two batters later, Zach Kometani singled to deep left center to score Nidiffer and cut the lead to 2-1.
In the seventh, Andrew Cohn completed a 13-pitch plate appearance by being hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Chase Burch took a Jason Sullivan offering over the rightfield wall for a two-run homer and a 3-2 TC lead. For Burch, it was his sixth homer and 25th RBI in just 11 games at GCS Ballpark.
Traverse City carried that lead into the eighth when Gateway had a runner on second with two outs. Jon Myers came up and singled to left to score Jose Flores to tie the game. Vladimir Frias then took the first pitch he saw over the leftfield wall for a two-run shot and a 5-3 Grizzlies lead.
The win went to Zac Treece (2-0) who pitched a scoreless eighth. Richard Barrett earned his fourth save. Matt Miller (0-1) absorbed the loss for the Beach Bums.
Offensively, both Nidiffer and Taylor Wrenn extended their hitting streaks to seven games.
The series wraps up Sunday at 4:05 pm with Jacob Clem (1-2, 6.75) on the mound for the Beach Bums against Tim Brown (2-1, 2.14) for Gateway.
