Saturday, June 1 - 6:05 p.m. CT

All Pro Freight Stadium - Avon, OH

Game #14 - Road Game #5 (4-9), (1-3)

Last time out

The Slammers committed a franchise record five errors as they fell by a score of 5-1. Brett Zawacki went five innings, giving up five runs but only two of them were earned. He walked one and struck out five. Lake Erie got on the board in the second inning as Anderson Hidalgo singled with one away. An error by Javan Williams on the play allowed Hidalgo to go all the way to third. He would score on a sacrifice fly. Then in the third inning, Max Casper singled and advanced to second on a passed ball. A grounder to short appeared to have Casper out at third but Kyle Maunus dropped the throw and everyone was safe. Casper would then score on a 4-6-3 double play. The Crushers tacked on two more in the fourth and another unearned run in the fifth. Joliet's lone run came in the seventh on a Goose Kallunki sacrifice fly. The Slammers left seven men on base and hit into three double plays.

For Starters...

Jacob Sanchez's first two starts have been very impressive but a lack of run support has hurt him so far in 2013. In his most recent start on May 26 he went six innings, giving up two runs on four hits but got a no-decision as Joliet lost 3-2. Sanchez had a very impressive rookie season for the Slammers. In 11 starts he posted a 5-2 record with a 2.89 ERA. Sanchez struck out 45 batters and walked only 15. The right-hander went at least six innings in eight of his 11 starts. Before coming to Joliet, Sanchez was the Midwest Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2012. Sanchez finished the 2012 Iowa Wesleyan season with a 10-2 record and a 2.42 earned run average, including 111 strikeouts, 12 walks, 71 hits allowed and 28 runs allowed (25 earned) in 93 innings pitched. He led the MCC in strikeouts and innings pitched, was second in wins and third in earned run average and opponents' batting average (.208). Sanchez obliterated the Iowa Wesleyan single season strikeout record, becoming the first player in school history to go over 100 K's in a season, and also tied the school record for wins in a season. He also was a recipient of a Gold Glove award with one error in 29 chances in the field.
