FLORENCE, Ky. - Matt Greener hit his first home run of the season Saturday night in Florence, but the Florence (8-6) bats were too much as the Rockford Aviators (1-12), presented by Pearson, lost the game 5-2.
Greener's first home run of the season put Rockford on top 1-0 in the top of the fourth.
Florence's David Harris hit a home run in the fifth to tie the game at 1-1.
The Aviators then regained the lead in the seventh. With one out, Chase Larsson singled. Greg Van Horn then singled to left, where the ball was bobbled by Harris. Larsson advanced to third on the error by Harris and scored when Harris committed his second error of the play by throwing the ball off of Larsson's back as he slid into third. Rockford led 2-1 at the stretch.
The bottom of the seventh was the big inning for Florence. Harris hit an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2. Two batters later, Eric Groff hit a two-out, three-run home run to conclude the scoring and put the Freedom on top for good, 5-2.
Florence starter Jason Wilson pitched eight innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits. Wilson walked two and struck out three on his way to collecting the win, his first of the year. Closer Jorge Marban gave up a hit and a walk in the ninth, but picked up his third save of the season.
Rockford starter Nick Anderson, in his first appearance of the season, took the loss for Rockford.
The two teams will finish the series Sunday at 5:05 p.m.
