Frias Leads Grizzlies to Comeback Victory

Sauget, Ill. - Vladimir Frias broke an eighth inning tie with a two-run home run that propelled the Gateway Grizzlies to a 5-3 win against the Traverse City Beach Bums Saturday night at GCS Ballpark.

Frias went 2-for-4 in the game to extend his hit streak to seven games in front of a crowd of 4,726.

Tucker Jensen got the start for the Grizzlies and kept his team in the game with a solid six innings. Jensen, a right-hander, allowed one run on seven hits.

Zac Treece (2-0) notched the win with a scoreless inning of relief.

Gateway (9-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning. Michael Pair and Alex Guthrie each had RBI doubles.

Traverse City (7-7) scored three runs in the sixth and seventh to take their first lead of the game. Zach Kometani drove in a run with a single in the sixth and Chase Burch blasted a two-run seventh inning home run to right field.

Jose Flores started the Grizzlies eighth inning comeback with a leadoff double. After Landon Hernandez struck out and Jet Butler grounded out, Jon Myers drove in Flores on a single to tie the game. Frias followed with a two-run home run to right field to give Gateway the lead for good.

Richard Barrett worked a one-two-three ninth inning to record his fourth save of the season and give Gateway their sixth win in their last eight games.

The Grizzlies and Beach Bums play the finale of their series on Sunday. It's American Heart Association Day, Izzy's Birthday Party and Visor Giveaway presented by Illinois Eye Surgeons. First pitch is set for 3:05 at GCS Ballpark.
