Utah Grizzlies News Release

Anchorage, Alaska - The Utah Grizzlies (0-0-1-0) battled back from a 1-0 third period deficit to take a 2-1 lead, but fell 3-2 in overtime Friday night in Alaska in the season opener for both teams.

Daryl Boyle fired a shot through traffic as an Alaska power-play expired 40 seconds into overtime to give the Aces the two points.

"We had a lot of fight in the dog tonight, we all battled," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "Our goaltending was solid, but unfortunately we just took a few untimely penalties.

Utah fell behind 5:51 into the first period on a shot through traffic and trailed for the ensuing 36:56 before tying the game on a Brent Gauvreau score from Jake Gannon and Brad Snetsigner. Utah took a 2-1 lead 4:11 later as Hugo Carpentier fed rookie Chris Donovan for his first pro goal in his first pro game to give Utah the lead.

The Aces then turned desperate in front of a large crowd in their home opener as Wes Goldie went top shelf and pointblank on J.P. Lamoureux and tied the game at 11:12 to end the 4:14 minute Utah lead.

The Grizzlies then got into penalty trouble, committing three minors in the final 7:18, but Lamoureux turned away a barrage of shots that totaled 21 in the third period.

The Utah goaltender in his Grizzlies debut, after playing for the Aces and winning the league's goaltender of the year award in 2008-2009, stopped 36 of 39 shots for Utah in the game.

The Grizzlies and Aces complete their opening weekend series Saturday in Anchorage. Face-off is scheduled for 9:15 p.m.

Utah opens their 2010-2011 home schedule at Maverik Center Friday, October 22 and Saturday, October 23 when they will welcome the Bakersfield Condors.
