Road Warriors Make Trade with Kalamazoo
October 16, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - The Greenville Road Warriors announced today that they have completed a trade with the Kalamazoo Wings for Anton Kharin in exchange for future considerations.
Kharin, 25, joins the Road Warriors for his first full season of pro hockey. Last season Kharin (pronounced ha-REEN) skated in seven games with Kalamazoo before suffering a season-ending knee injury in October, 2009. Prior to his injury the 5-11, 185-pound winger racked up nine points (2G, 7A) in just seven games with the Wings. Kharin notched a goal and an assist in his ECHL debut on October 15, 2009 in a win over Reading and followed that performance with two other multi-point games.
Prior to turning pro, Kharin spent three seasons with the Rochester Institute of Technology in the NCAA. With the Tigers he amassed 54 points (30G, 24A) in 101 games. The Twin Lakes, Michigan native played 10 games professionally with the Muskegon Lumberjacks and earned 15 points (5G, 10A) in the spring of 2009. Kharin had a unique experience as he played one game with his father, Sergei, for Muskegon in the 2008-09 season. Sergei Kharin played 12 seasons professional in North America including seven games with the NHL's Winnipeg Jets in 1990-91, and was also a member of the Soviet Union's gold medal-winning team at the 1988 Winter Olympics.
Mark your calendars! The Road Warriors, ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers, kick off their inaugural season on Thursday, October 21 against the Florida Everblades at 7:05 p.m. ET.
