Daryl Boyle scored 40 seconds into overtime to cap a comeback win as the Alaska Aces beat the Utah Grizzlies 3-2 in overtime on opening night of the 2010-2011 ECHL season. Brian Swanson had three assists, and Wes Goldie and Bryan Miller each had a goal and an assist to help lead the Aces. Alaska and Utah will square off again in a Saturday evening rematch at 7:15 to close the weekend series. Fans in attendance will receive Fred Meyer autograph books. The Aces wasted no time taking control of the game. They outshot the Grizzlies 13-5 in the opening frame and dominated control. Miller opened the scoring when he floated a wrist shot from the left point through traffic and past a screened J.P. Lamoureux at 5:51. The goal stood as the only of the period, as Lamoureux made several key saves to keep the game within a goal.

The second period tilted in Utah's favor as they started to steal the game's momentum. They outshot the Aces 11-4 and outchanced them largely in the frame, but Aces netminder Gerald Coleman stood strong to keep the score 1-0 in Alaska's favor through the frame.

In the third period Utah turned their chances into goals. At 2:47 Brent Gauvreau poked a rebound past Coleman to even the score 1-1. Just over four minutes later, at 6:58, Hugo Carpentier set up Chris Donovan streaking down the slot for his first professional goal to give Utah their first lead of the night. With the clock turned against Alaska, they turned to their biggest off-season acquisition. At 11:12 of the third, Wes Goldie roofed a rebound from just outside the top of the crease for his first goal in an Aces sweater and the game-tying tally. The Aces then threw everything they could at the Utah net, but were robbed consistently by Lamoureux, who was brilliant in his return to Alaska. Regulation ended at 2-2, but early in overtime, just as an Aces power play expired, Boyle sent a one-timer from the high slot into the net for the game winner.

Gerald Coleman (1-0) was sharp in the win, making 22 of 24 saves, and Lamoureux (0-0-1) suffered the OT loss with 36 saves on 39 shots. The Aces power played went 0-6, while the Grizzlies went 0-5. Alaska outshot Utah 39-24 in the game, and had the last 14 shots unanswered.

The Aces and Grizzlies return to the Sullivan Arena on Saturday night for a rematch at 7:15, and fans in attendance will receive free Fred Meyer autograph books. Plus you can meet a History Channel, IceRoad Trucker at the game. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.alaskaaces.com.
