A LOOK AT LAST WEEK (0-1-0-1)

Friday vs. Bridgeport Loss 6-2
Saturday vs. Bridgeport OT/Loss 2-1

The Grizzlies began their four-game home stand against Bridgeport on Halloween with a game that ended up as a nightmare. Utah gave up an early goal against Bridgeport on Friday night and never recovered dropping a 6-2 decision to the Sound Tigers. Jeff Hamilton had a pair of goals and an assist and Eric Manlow had two helpers leading Bridgeport to their second consecutive victory. Martin Kariya, Derek Bekar, Ryan Kraft and Martin Chabada also scored goals for the Sound Tigers and Dieter Kochan made 26 saves earning the victory. Utah received a first period goal from Steve Gainey and a late third period goal from Jarrod Skalde accounting for their two goals. Skalde's goal came on the power play ending a 0 for 42 skid by Utah. The Grizzlies finished the night 1 for 6 on the power play. Mike Smith made 20 saves dropping to 2-3 on the season for Utah. The Grizzlies faced the Sound Tigers again on Saturday, making a strong defensive effort but coming up short with a late-game letdown. Utah scored early and led for nearly the entire game, but still fell for the second night in a row to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in overtime. Utah grabbed the 1-0 lead in the first period with a shot from Mattias Tjarqvist who caught up with a rejected shot by Justin Cox and netted his second goal of the season at the 4:29 mark while the Grizzlies were shorthanded. Utah maintained the 1-0 lead throughout the next 53 minutes.

Bridgeport finally responded at 18:50 of the third period when Justin Mapletoft notched his fourth goal of the season by redirecting a shot in front of Grizzlies netminder Jason Bacashihua tying the game for the Sound Tigers.

Overtime lasted all of thirty seconds as Bridgeport's Ryan Kraft caught the corner of the net from the high slot. Bridgeport improves to 4-3-2-1 on the season as the Grizzlies fall to 2-5-1-2.
