Gulls Raise $7,100 for Wildfire Victims at Home Opener
November 4, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO â The San Diego Gulls raised $7,100 at their home opener Saturday for the San Diego County wildfire victims. Fundraiser efforts will continue for the next two games, both this weekend against the Florida Everblades.
Free Gulls "Ice Down The Fire" T-shirts will be given to anyone who donates $10 or more. Some 660 shirts were given away Saturday, raising $6,550. This fundraiser will continue until the remaining 1,340 T-shirts are given away. If every shirt is given away, a grand total of at least $20,000 will be raised. All of the net proceeds will be donated to the San Diego Chapter of the American Red cross, specifically for the San Diego fire victims.
The Gulls are also continuing their "Saves for San Diego" program for both games this weekend. For every save made by San Diego goaltenders, $25 will be donated to the American Red Cross. Thanks to Trevor Koenig's 22 saves on Saturday, $550 was raised so far.
All donations can be made at any of the open merchandise stands throughout the Sports Arena concourse. Fans who won't be able to attend the games this weekend can mail in their donations:

The Gulls host the Everblades Friday and Saturday. It will be Florida's first-ever visit to the Sports Arena and the first time the Gulls face a team from the east. Friday's game starts at 7:35 p.m. and the first 5,000 fans will get a Gulls inaugural ECHL T-shirt, courtesy of Barona Valley Ranch Resort and Casino.
Saturday's tilt begins at 7:05 p.m. and will be televised live on Channel 4 San Diego. It will also be the fourth annual "Teddy Bear Toss," presented by San Diego Harley Davidson and the California Office of Traffic Safety. Fans are invited to bring a new, unwrapped stuffed toy to toss onto the ice after the Gulls score their first goal. The California Highway Patrol will donate all toys to underprivileged children throughout the San Diego community.
All games can be heard on KPOP 1360AM with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play. The Gulls' Internet radio show, hosted by Tera Black and Jeremy Zager on wsradio.com, will begin airing biweekly soon. Stay tuned for more details.
