Grizzlies Fall to Slammers at Home

SAUGET, IL - Erik Lis homered twice and Joliet piled on nine runs in a 9-2 drubbing of the Gateway Grizzlies on Wednesday night at GCS Ballpark. A crowd of 3,067 saw the Grizzlies fall for the second time in the series to the Slammers.

After scoring in each of the last four innings in game one of the series, the Slammers scored in each of the first three innings in game two.

Josh Flores led off the game with a double and was driven in by Brad Netzel, who doubled as well, to give the Slammers a 1-0 lead. Lis wrapped up the Slammers first inning scoring with an RBI single.

Kent Gerst led off the first with a home run for Gateway (28-39). It was the seventh of the season for Gerst.

Flores did some damage again in the second, driving in catcher Ben Hewett to give the Slammers a 3-1 advantage.

Joliet (39-28) received a solo homer to right center from Erik Lis in the third inning.

Gateway homered once again in the fourth. Charlie Lisk led off the inning with his 13th homer of the season. It was also Charlie's 102nd homer in the Frontier League.

Joliet added two runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth to cap off the scoring.

Sean Toler (0-2) took the loss for Gateway, giving up four earned runs on ten hits in six innings.

The Grizzlies conclude their three game series with the Joliet Slammers on Thursday night. Right-hander Brad Stone (0-5) gets the start for Gateway in game three of the series. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT at GCS Ballpark.
