Joliet Slammers News Release

(Joliet, IL) - Former Chicago Cubs pitcher and current Joliet Slammers Pitching Coach Carmen "Piggy" Pignatiello has helped the Slammers post the best ERA in the Frontier League's East Division.

"Piggy" is also the inspiration for one of the most creative giveaways in the history of professional baseball.

On Saturday, August 13th, the Slammers will give the first 1000 fans through the Silver Cross Field gates a Carmen Pignatiello "Piggy" Bank.

The date had previously been listed as a "mystery giveaway" on the Slammers' promotional schedule and the team rewarded their loyal Facebook fans by releasing the news on Facebook before they released it to the general public. The Slammers' Facebook page features some of the best photography in professional baseball, insider videos, interactive game recaps, and special ticket offers just for the team's Facebook fans. In many cases it's the first place to find out about team news.

The Slammers released another mystery giveaway on Facebook: a Bobblehead of their primary mascot "Spikes," which will go to the first 1000 fans through the gates on Tuesday, August 9.

The August 9th game is set for 7:05 p.m. Central Time against the Gateway Grizzlies. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and in order to receive the giveaway fans must arrive early. The "Piggy" Bank figures to go just as fast and first pitch on August 13th is set for 6:05 p.m. Central Time with gates opening at 5:00.

For tickets to these and other games stop by or call the Slammers Box Office during business hours at (815) 722-2287. Buy tickets any time at www.jolietslammers.com.

The Joliet Slammers are members of the Frontier League of Professional Baseball. The Frontier League is the oldest continuously operating independent professional league, in its 19th season in 2011. For more information about the Frontier League visit www.frontierleague.com.
