Florence Y'alls News Release

The Freedom loaded the bases in the ninth inning but were unable to capitalize as they fell 6-3 to Lake Erie on Wednesday night in Florence. Florence has lost a season-high eight consecutive games.

Steve MacFarland made his third start for the Freedom and worked around two walks as the Crushers left the bases loaded in the first. MacFarland didn't get a chance to complete more than one inning however, as he walked the first two hitters in the second and was pulled for Tim Holmes. Holmes got out of the jam by inducing a 1-6-3 double play and groundout.

Holmes allowed two solo home runs to Andrew Davis and Jason Taylor in the third, both of which were wind-aided to right-center field. Florence loaded the bases in the bottom half of the third due to the wildness of Crushers starter Thomas Campbell. Justin Holloway led off with a walk, Junior Arrojo was hit by his second pitch of the game, and Chris Curley was hit in the back as well. Willie Holmes drove a two-run RBI single to center to tie the game at two.

Lake Erie pushed right back at the Freedom with a four-run fourth inning against Holmes. The first two Crushers were retired via a groundout and fly out, but the next five runners reached, including Dav's two-run double and Kellen Kulbacki's two-run single to but the Crushers ahead 6-2 after four.

John Malloy hit a solo homer to right in the fifth, his second of the season, to cut the deficit to 6-3.

Campbell exited after six quality innings, holding the Freedom to three runs on three hits.

The offenses were quieted after that, as Braden Tullis threw three scoreless innings and Chad Robinson and Corey Martin each tossed a scoreless frame for the Freedom.

The Freedom got one more opportunity in the ninth as Juan Valdes singled with two outs off of Crushers reliever Chris Allen. Kelyn Schellenberg came on in relief and walked Junior Arrojo and pinch hitter Drew Rundle consecutively to load the bases for Chris Curley. With the winning run at the plate, Curley struck out swinging to end the game.

The Freedom send southpaw Anthony Bello (2-3, 4.06) to the rubber in game three to face off against Crushers righty Josh Roberts (7-4, 3.98).

Quick Notes: Arrojo has been hit by 27 pitches this season and is just two away from matching the Frontier League record of 29 set in 2005...Florence has scored seven runs in their last four games
