Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (17-16-6-7) finished their five-game home stand Wednesday with a 4-3 loss to Bakersfield at the E-Center.
The Condors started the game hot scoring two goals in the first 3:17. At the 7:14 point of the first period, Andy Sertich scored a power-play goal assisted by Tim Verbeek to make it 2-1. Bakersfield grabbed another goal in the first to make it 3-1, but with 36 seconds left to go in the first, Tom May added his 15th of the season to make it 3-2 to end the period. May has now scored a goal in seven-straight games.
56 seconds into the second period, Mark Pavli added his fourth goal of the year and second in three games knocking in a rebound on a shot by James Brannigan tying the game at 3-3. The goal was the second in one minute and 32 seconds by the Grizzlies. Both teams went scoreless for the rest of the second period.
At 3:09 in the third period Bakersfield took the lead 4-3 on a power-play goal that could never be matched by Utah. The Grizzlies had two power-plays going down the stretch, including the game's final 38 seconds when they pulled goaltender Peter Mannino and took a six-on-four advantage.
After the game coach Kevin Colley said, "Their goalie made some great saves and we just couldn't put it in the back of the net there at the end of the game. The guys competed though, we just didn't get the bounces."
The Grizzlies now hit the road for games in Stockton on Friday and Las Vegas on Sunday. Face-off Friday evening from the Stockton Arena is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
Utah returns home Monday to open a four-game in six-night home stand starting with Bakersfield at 7:05 p.m.
