SALT LAKE CITY - LW Mark Derlago scored twice and added an assist as the Bakersfield Condors claimed a 4-3 win over the Utah Grizzlies in front of 2,279 fans at the E-Center Wednesday night.

The Condors (17-27-6, 40pts) had a variety of leads in the opening frame, including a 2-0 lead just over three minutes in. Derlago slammed in his 17th of the season on the power play at 2:10, and RW Chad Painchaud (pictured) notched his 12th at 3:17 on a breakaway to give the Condors a commanding early advantage. C Dave Bonk assisted on both Condors goals. But Utah continued to battle back. They pulled within a goal when D Andy Sertich lit the lamp on the power play at 7:14. F Matt Pope racked up his 27th of the season with just over a minute left in the frame to put Bakersfield back up by two. But just 46 seconds later Utah scored to again make it a one-goal game after 20 minutes.

That late goal proved fateful for Utah (17-16-13, 47pts) as F Mark Pavli scored less than a minute into the second to knot the score up 3-3. The tally came when Condors G Yutaka Fukufuji lost his stick and was unable to steer away a rebound. It was the only tally of the period, while the Condors held a 14-10 advantage in shots in the frame, and a 27-21 bulge through 40 minutes.

On a power play early in the third, the Condors jumped back in front. Derlago netted his second of the night at 3:09, jamming in a loose puck after slipping it behind Grizzlies G Peter Mannino from the side of the net. Fukufuji made the lead hold the rest of the way, stopping all 15 shots he saw in the third and 33 on the night. The victory was the third in the last four games for the Condors, who return home for just one game Friday before embarking on another three-game trip.
