Hemby Cub 2009 - Suits vs. Geeks

Saturday, February 21, 2009 1:00 PM

If for one small moment in one special day, you could experience a child's joy - hear the laughter, see the smiles, all the while knowing the medical challenges they face each day-wouldn't you want to be part of it?

The Hemby Cup was founded to give sick children, if for just one day, time to forget about the treatments, the rehabilitation, and the medicine and just have FUN. This annual fundraising hockey event is a face off that benefits Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital, Presbyterian Children's Emergency Department and Presbyterian Blume Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Clinic.

Since 2001 the Hemby Cup has raised over $450,000. The funds raised so far have been used to purchase needed medical equipment, beds, toys, games and books for the playroom and build a brand new playground.

To purchase tickets for the 2009 Hemby Cup game or for more information, please visit www.hembycup.com. Tickets for the event are $15 and includes entrance into the Checkers vs. Florida Everblades game on 2/21/09 at 7 PM.

Arts & Science Council Night Feb. 21

Enjoy a night of hockey mixed with arts, culture and education during ASC & CMS Night with the Charlotte Checkers. The evening will help raise money to support Charlotte-Mecklenburg's cultural community through the Arts & Science Council's (ASC) 2009 Annual Fund Drive. Contributions through ASC support cultural organizations, education, artists and neighborhood projects right here in our community. Last year nearly 4 million experiences in the cultural community were supported by ASC; and almost half of those were for children.

CMS students in grades K-8 have designed creative jerseys to be worn by the Charlotte Checkers at CMS night next fall. Their drawings will be on display. Plus, find out which art, science or history teacher from CMS will be awarded Charlotte Checkers Teacher of the Year. Join us as we celebrate arts, culture and education in our community.
