Grizzlies Edge Rainiers In Extras, 4-3 Rob Brantly goes 2-for-4 with solo home run

FRESNO, Calif. - The Tacoma Rainiers (20-15) fell 4-3 to the Fresno Grizzlies (15-19) in extra innings on Friday night at Chukchansi Park.

Tacoma starting pitcher Donn Roach held the Grizzlies to two runs on six hits across 6.0 innings of work - he walked one and struck out five.

Catcher Rob Brantly (2x4) finished with the Rainiers only multi-hti performance, and notched his second home run of the season.

With two outs in the top of the third and left fielder Dario Pizzano on first base, second baseman Shawn O'Malley struck out swinging but extended the inning by taking first base on a wild pitch that advanced Pizzano to third. Shortstop Chris Taylor followed with a walk to load the bases, and first baseman Efren Navarro worked a bases-loaded walk behind Taylor to push in the Rainiers first run of the night.

A fielding error by Nolan Fontana allowed O'Malley to reach with one out in the fifth - Navarro pushed him in to expand Tacoma's lead to 2-0 two batters later with an RBI double.

Catcher Rob Brantly sent out his second home run of the year to leadoff the top of the sixth inning, giving the Rainiers a 3-0 advantage.

Jon Singleton blasted a two-out, two-run home run for the Grizzlies in the bottom of the sixth to quickly cut Tacoma's lead to one run at 3-2.

The Grizzlies tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Tony Kemp roped an RBI triple into the left-center field gap, scoring Roberto Pena from second.

Fresno loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the tenth and brought across the winning run on an RBI groundout to first, giving the Grizzlies a 4-3 win.

The Rainiers return home to kick off a four-game series against the Omaha Storm Chasers tomorrow, Saturday, May 14. Right-hander Joe Wieland (2-3, 10.58) will start to Tacoma, while Omaha will hand the ballot lefty Jonathan Dziedzic (1-3, 4.45). First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m. PT.
