New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Keon Broxton slugged two home runs and the Colorado Springs Sky Sox scored in each of the first four innings en route to a 10-3 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Friday night.
Broxton led off the game with a towering home run to center field off Zephyrs starter Jarred Cosart, his second leadoff home run of the season.
Xavier Scruggs responded in the bottom of the inning with a two-run blast to give the Z's a short-lived 2-1 lead.
Sky Sox starter Taylor Jungmann helped his cause in the second inning to put his team back in front to stay. With two on and two out, Jungmann's lined drive careened off the glove of shortstop Austin Nola to score both runners.
An inning later, Andy Wilkins tucked a two-run homer inside the left field foul pole, and Broxton followed with his second home run of the night in the fourth inning, another two-run shot to give the Sky Sox a 7-2 cushion.
Broxton became the fifth Sky Sox player to hit two home runs in a game at Zephyr Field, and the second in as many years, joining Jason Rogers last July 12.
Cosart (1-2) was roughed up for the second start in a row, allowing seven runs and eight hits in four innings. The right-hander struck out one and walked three.
Meanwhile, Jungmann came back from the home run by Scruggs to limit the Zephyrs to one run and three hits over the next four innings. Despite issuing four walks and hitting two batters, Jungmann (1-2) struck out six on the night to earn his first win of the year.
Colorado Springs tacked on two more runs in the sixth against Hunter Adkins, and added a run in the ninth on an RBI triple by Nate Orf, who finished with three of his club's 14 hits.
The Zephyrs have lost 14 of their last 19 home games against Colorado Springs over the last three seasons, and have dropped eight of 10 overall heading into the opener of an eight-game road trip on Saturday night in El Paso.
