 Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - Oklahoma City Dodgers catcher Jack Murphy smacked a solo home run in the eighth inning and starting pitcher Julio Urias tossed six scoreless frames in the Dodgers' 1-0 win against the Las Vegas 51s Saturday in front of a sellout crowd of 9,975 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The win extended the Dodgers' winning streak to a season-best five games as they opened a four-game series against the 51s.
Urias turned in six scoreless innings for the third straight game, extending his stretch of scoreless innings pitched to 22.
He allowed three hits and walked two, but faced just one over the minimum during the six innings thanks to two double plays and two pickoffs.
Urias combined with relievers Joe Thatcher, Matt West (1-0) and Chin-Hui Tsao on Oklahoma City's fifth shutout win of the season.
Las Vegas starting pitcher Rafael Montero held the Dodgers (21-13) without a hit until the fifth inning when Murphy lined a single to left field with two outs.
Murphy later broke through the scoreless tie between the teams in the eighth inning, leading off the frame with his second home run of the season. His solo homer landed in the upper deck in right field for a 1-0 Oklahoma City lead, as he collected two of the Dodgers' four hits in the game.
Thatcher and West combined for two scoreless innings before Tsao entered the game to pitch the ninth inning for Oklahoma City. The 51s collected two singles with one out. Travis Taijeron then hit a liner toward second base that Austin Barnes dove to snag for the second out of the inning. Tsao then struck out Matt Reynolds to close out the game for his sixth save of the season.
West ended up with the win - his first of the season - for Oklahoma City.
Las Vegas pitcher Jeff Walters (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing Murphy's home run in the eighth inning, as Las Vegas fell to 18-17 on the season.
The Dodgers picked up their ninth win in the last 11 games as they opened a stretch of 16 straight games against Pacific Conference opponents.
The series between the teams continues at 2:05 p.m. Sunday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Tomorrow is a Chaparral Energy Family Sunday, as well as Yoga Night with the OKC Dodgers. Each Sunday home game throughout the season is filled with family fun activities such as pregame player autographs and kids can run the bases after the game. A Yoga Night ticket package for Sunday's game includes a game ticket, a Dodgers baseball hat, a Dodgers branded yoga mat and access to participate in a postgame yoga session in the outfield.
