Reno Aces News Release
SACRAMENTO - The Reno Aces closed an 11-game road trip with a 7-3 loss to the Sacramento River Cats on Friday night at Raley Field. The defeat marked Reno's first loss in five games on Friday the 13th dates in franchise history.
Both pitchers put up zeroes for four innings before Sacramento broke the scoreless tied with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Relief pitcher Steven Okert helped his own cause with a two-out double to right to bring up center fielder Gorkys Hernandez. The Sacramento leadoff man launched a two-run home run to left to put the River Cats in front by a 2-0 score.
The home team added four runs in the sixth. After left fielder Mac Williamson reached on a Reno fielding error to start the inning, third baseman Grant Green lined an RBI triple down the right-field line to score pinch-runner Darren Ford. Catcher George Kottaras followed with a run-scoring single up the middle to bring Green home. Shortstop Hak-Ju Lee reached on a fielder's choice to batters later before pinch-hitter Mitch Delfino hit a two-run homer to left field to increase the River Cats' lead to 6-0.
Sacramento (14-22) increased its advantage to seven in the seventh. Reno reliever Adam Loewen walked the first two batters on eight pitches, and Green made the lefty pay with an RBI single to center. Reno (15-19) avoided the shutout with three runs in the ninth. Shortstop Jack Reinheimer (@Reinheimer_08) got the Aces on the board when he scored from third on a Sacramento fielding error. After Jason Bourgeois (@jbourgeois11) flew out to right, Mike Freeman (@mikebfree5) plated two runs on a triple to center to produce the final margin in Reno's 7-3 loss.
Peter O'Brien had two of the Aces' eight hits on the night for his team-best 14th multi-hit game of the year. The second knock was an eighth-inning double to left that marked the slugger's 20th extra-base hit, tying El Paso's Hunter Renfroe for the PCL lead in this category. Reinheimer added a pair of singles to record his 10th multi-hit contest.
Okert (2-0) earned the win, allowing one hit with three strikeouts in a scoreless fifth inning. Starter Tyler Wagner (_@TylerWagner_) took the loss to fall to 1-4 on the season, allowing two earned runs on five hits in five innings with one walk and five strikeouts.
Reno begins an eight-game, nine-day homestand on Saturday night with the opener of a four-game series against the Iowa Cubs. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. PT. Reno will send right-hander Matt Buschmann (0-3, 4.07) to the bump, while the I-Cubs will counter with righty Jake Buchanan (2-1, 4.24). The evening also is D-backs Affiliation Night, and will feature an appearance and autograph signing by 2001 World Series hero Luis Gonzalez from 5-5:30 p.m.
