Grizzlies Drop Second in a Row to ThunderBolts

Gateway Grizzlies News Release
SAUGET, Ill. - Grizzlies late inning heroics fall short, as the Thunderbolts of Windy City hold off a surging Gateway 5-4 Thursday evening at GCS Ballpark.
After falling behind 5-1 in the third inning, Gateway (23-21) made it an interesting game three finale. Gateway eked back with a run in the eighth inning on a Jerod Yakubik solo-homerun to right field, his first of the year. The Grizzlies knocked on the door again in the final frame with a two-out surge that plated a pair of runs, due in part to clutch Gateway knocks. Frontier League West All-Star Landon Hernandez sent a line-drive, two-run shot into the right field porch of GCS stadium to bring the game within one.
However, the comeback proved short lived, as Grizzlies outfielder Aaron Conway was sat down by way of strikeout to end the offensive flurry. The Thunderbolt (25-17) hurlers did their work on the mound, allowing only four runs on seven hits. Windy City starter Blayne Weller (3-0) dished eight and two-thirds innings of six-hit baseball, while allowing only three earned runs and notched 13 strikeouts.
Gateway didn't fair the same. Starter Patrick Arnold (3-2) was charged the loss, after pitching only two and two-thirds frames and surrendered three earned on six hits. Gateway's bullpen picked up the pieces, silencing the Windy City bats for the remaining six and a third innings of play. Reliever Ju'Vaun West led the arms, going two and a third innings with only one hit and a strikeout.
Action resumes for the Grizzlies Friday night at 7:05 CT as they take on the Rockford RiverHawks at RiverHawks stadium.
