River City Rascals News Release
Marion, Ill. - River City lost another one-run game to the Miners who got a homerun from Ken Gregory to start the seventh that would break up a 2-2 tie and stand up as the game winner in a 3-2 loss, dropping the Rascals record in one-run games to 6-10.
The first hit of the game for either team did not come until the fifth inning when Jason Patton singled with two outs, and after advancing to second on a walk, scored when Matt Serna singled to left-center to give River City (24-21) a 1-0 lead for the third-straight game.
The Miners (27-18) ended Keli'i Zablan's no-hit bid with a double to start the fifth and after a groundout advanced Carlos Mendez to third, he scored on a sacrifice fly to left to even the game at 1-1.
The Rascals took back the lead in the seventh when Charlie Lisk singled to start the frame, eventually scoring on a shallow fly to right field on a terrific slide under the tag at home to give River City the 1-0 lead.
A leadoff single and walk started the bottom of the seventh, and after a bunt moved the runners up a base, the Miners scored the tying run on laser up the middle from former Rascals Chad Maddox that knocked the glove off pitcher Don Lisi who couldn't track down the carom back of the mound.
Gregory's solo homerun made the score 3-2 but River City would have a chance in the eighth after Ben Hewett doubled to start the inning but the Rascals failed to scored him before they went in order in the ninth, falling by the final of 3-2.
River City starts a three-game series Friday against the second place Windy City Thunderbolts with first pitch set for 7:05 CT. You can hear the live action on Westplex News-Talk 1280 AM or online at www.westplexnewstalk.com.
