Grizzlies Cap Home Season with Win

SAUGET, IL- The fourth-largest crowd in franchise history, 7,222, was on hand Thursday night at GCS Ballpark as the Gateway Grizzlies defeated the Rockford RiverHawks 12-7 in the 2009 home finale.

Grizzlies utility man Breck Draper lived up to the name Thursday, becoming the first player in franchise history to play all nine positions in a single game. Draper began the game at third, worked his way around the infield, then the outfield, starting in left. He had played all eight field positions by the end of the fifth inning. Draper then pitched in relief in the ninth inning, tossing one-third of an inning. Draper added his seventh home run of the year in the third.

For the second night in a row, the Grizzlies (39-54) took a first-inning lead that they never relinquished. Joe Agreste doubled with the bases loaded to put the Grizzlies up 2-0. They added two more in the inning and led 4-0 after one inning.

Rockford (43-48) got a two-run homer from Caleb Fields in the third to make it 4-2. Fields added another two-run homer in the seventh and finished 3-4 with the two homers. He hit three in the three-game series and finished with 11 RBIs.

The Grizzlies got another four-run inning in the third to lead 8-2 after three. Nate Lape, Agreste and Draper all homered in the inning. Lape's fourth of the year was his third in as many nights. He finished 2-3. Agreste was 2-5 on the night with three RBIs.

Brandon Peters finished the night 3-5 with a pair of RBIs. Joseph Scaperotta closed out the scoring with a home run, his 21st, in the bottom of the eighth. He was 1-4.

Christian Castorri (3-2) started and tossed six innings for the win. He allowed five runs on seven hits. He struck out five.

The Grizzlies head to Evansville for the final series of the year which begins Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
