Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - On a night the Florence Freedom played their final home game, they were forced to watch the Lake Erie Crushers celebrate for the third straight night following a win, this time 5-4 at Champion Window Field.
For the second straight night, Tyler Johnson hit what proved to be the game winning home run. With the game tied at three in the fifth, Johnson took Jordan Towns deep with a man on to make it 5-3 Crushers.
The Freedom had to fight back to tie the game at three with a three run fourth. Ryan Basham hit his fifteenth homer of the season with a man on to cut the Lake Erie lead to one. Justin Pickett tied the game with a RBI single to make 3-3.
Trailing 5-3, the Freedom scored the game's final run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Basham doubled home Tim Grogan. Basham finished 2-4 with three RBIs.
Florence had multiple chances to tie the game late, but left men in scoring position in the sixth and ninth innings. Jay Johnson struck out looking with Grogan at second in the ninth against J.J. Pacella for the game's final out. Pacella saved his second of the series and tenth in 2009.
Cardoza Tucker struggled through five innings, but earned the win. Tucker allowed four runs on five hits and walked four on his way to improving to 4-0.
Towns (3-6) suffered the loss, allowing five runs, three earned in 6 1/3 innings. Errors in the second and fifth innings played a big factor in the game's outcome, as one additional run was allowed to score in each of the two innings. For Florence, it was the 123rd and 124th errors of the season.
The Freedom (47-46) take it to the road for their final three games following the sweep at the hands of the Crushers. Next up is a trip to Washington, Pennsylvania to take on the Washington Wild Things. Game time Friday night is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Follow the Freedom on the road by listening to Classic Country 106.7 FM WNKR or www.1067WNKR.com.
