
Grizzlies Take Final Meeting from RiverHawks

SAUGET, Ill. - Gateway opened with another big first inning on Thursday and went on to beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 12-7, to win the final meeting between the longtime Frontier League rivals.
Gateway took two of three in its final series against Rockford. The RiverHawks move up to the Northern League after the season.
Gateway scored twice in the first inning of a 20-17 loss to the RiverHawks on Tuesday. It scored three runs in the first inning of Wednesday's 9-3 win.
On Thursday, the Grizzlies scored four runs in the first. Joe Agreste doubled home two. Alex Kerins drove in a run on a groundout and Brandon Johnson singled in a two-out run.
In the third inning, the Grizzlies hit three home runs to extend the lead to 8-2. Agreste homered with one out. With two outs, Nathan Lape and Breck Draper hit back-to-back homers. Lape's home run, his third in as many games, came with a runner on. Joseph Scaperotta led off the Gateway eighth inning with his 21st homer of the year.
Rockford leadoff hitter Caleb Fields hit a pair of two-out, two-run homers, in the third and seventh innings. Fields, who came into the series with three home runs for the year, hit a home run on the first pitch of Tuesday's series opener.
Gateway starter Christian Castorri (3-2) gave up five runs on seven hits, but lasted six innings for the win. Ferdin Tejeda (1-3), who made his first start for Rockford, lasted three innings and took the loss.
The RiverHawks come home to finish the season with a Labor Day weekend series against Windy City. The homestand opens at 7:05 p.m. Friday with postgame fireworks sponsored by FatWallet.com.
