Rascals Outlast Otters 10-7; Slide Into First Place In The West

O'FALLON, MO - The Rascals concluded their regular season home schedule with a 10-7 victory over the Otters Thursday night in front of 2,944 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. River City finished 29-18 at the friendly confines and 11-1 against Evansville.

The Rascals (54-37) turned two Evansville errors into eight unearned runs in the fifth and sixth innings. JoJo Batten singled home Jorge Gutierrez, who reached on an Andre Liscinsky fielding error with one out. Chad Maddox put the Rascals out in front for good at 5-4 with a two run triple, tying Luke Barganier's single season record of five set in 2005.

Jake Laber (9-4) worked the first six frames for his ninth win, tying Josh Lowey for the team lead. The southpaw allowed four runs on nine hits and struck out five, eclipsing Aaron Ledbetter's 114 in 2005 by one.

The Otters (28-65) took a 4-2 lead in the fourth on a Frank Meade solo home run and an RBI single by Travis McCleary. Andre Liscinsky put the Otters up 1-0 on a leadoff home run in the first.

Luke Hetherington lifted a three run home run in the eighth off Michael Alcorn to tighten the score at 10-7. Jake Edwards came on in the ninth and earned his second save with a perfect inning.

Batten was 3-5 with a two run home run and four runs batted in. Maddox finished 2-4 with three knocked in as the Rascals wrapped up the season a perfect 6-0 at home against Evansville.

The Rascals wrap up the regular season with the games down in Southern Illinois. River City maintains a .002 percentage point lead over the Miners for first place in the West Division. Daniel Howard (5-5) takes the bump opposite Joe Augustine (7-4). First pitch Friday night is set for 7:05 p.m. at Rent One Park.
