
Game Ending Triple Play Leads Wild Things to 3-1 Victory over Kings

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, at CONSOL Energy Park Thursday night.
The Wild Things found ways to cross the plate in this contest with the Kalamazoo Kings. Washington took the lead in the first inning when Grant Psomas drove in Chris Sidick. Then in the fifth inning Sidick's sacrifice fly brought in Michael Parker who reached third base on a double and an error when he wailed a ball to the right field fence.
In the seventh inning Washington added another run when Josh Blackstock doubled to drive in Brett Grandstrand, who opened the inning with a triple.
Joseph Ramos put the Kings on the board in the eighth inning when he hit a solo home run.
In the ninth inning with runners on first and second Kalamazoo's Destan Makonnen lined out to Grant Psomas who stepped on first for the double play and alertly threw to second to complete a game ending triple play, the first in Wild Things history.
Zach Groh (6-5) pitched a strong game and got the win for Washington, going eight innings, allowing one (earned) run, on four hits and striking out seven. Chris Kupillas earned the save in his one inning on the hill.
The Wild Things welcome the Florence Freedom to CONSOL Energy Park for a three game set beginning Friday when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Air time on WJPA 95.3 F.M. is 6:55 p.m. Tickets are available at the box office.
