Grizzlies Add Three To Training Camp Roster

West Valley City, Utah - Utah Grizzlies Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Colley announced today that right wing J.D. Watt and defenseman Josh Meyers have joined the team from the AHL's Abbotsford Heat; which is the top affiliate of the Calgary Flames. In addition, the team has also signed defenseman Brett Motherwell, who spent training camp with the AHL's Chicago Wolves.

Watt, a 2005 draft pick of the Flames, spent 18 games last year with the ECHL's Las Vegas Wranglers; tallying five goals and nine assists for 14 points and 51 penalty minutes. He also put up two assists and totaled 146 penalty minutes in 42 games with Quad City, who was Calgary's AHL affiliate during his rookie season in 08-09.

Meyers, was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 2005, and last season completed his fourth year of college hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth; where he tallied 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points in 42 games during his senior season.

Motherwell played last year in Austria, while also appearing in four games for the AHL's Providence Bruins. The Illinois native played 48 games with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch in 2007-2008, putting up two goals and 14 assists for 16 points and 59 penalty minutes.

Utah opens the preseason Friday, October 9 at the Eccles Ice Center in Logan. Tickets are available for $7 and can be purchased at www.utahgrizzlies.com.

Utah enters their fifth year in the ECHL and their third-straight season as an affiliate of the New York Islanders. On September 16, 2009 the Grizzlies announced that they will also be adding up to four prospects this season from the Calgary Flames. Head Coach Kevin Colley returns to the Utah bench this upcoming season after signing a multi-year contract extension on April 20, 2009. Colley, who at the age of 30 is the youngest coach in the ECHL, led the Grizzlies to the playoffs for the third time in four years during his rookie head coaching campaign.
