
Emmerson, Young Assigned From Springfield

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League and Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, announced today that right wing Riley Emmerson and defenseman Bryan Young have been assigned to the Thunder from Springfield.
Emmerson, 23, is currently under an AHL contract to Springfield and has appeared in one game this year for the Falcons.
The 6-foot-8, 248-pound forward stands as the tallest player on the Thunder roster and has skated in 94 career ECHL games with the Florida Everblades and Texas Wildcatters in three seasons (2006-09), scoring seven points (4g-3a) while amassing 245 penalty minutes. He has appeared in four Kelly Cup Playoff games.The native of Vancouver, British Columbia suited up in 42 AHL games last year with the Rochester Americans, collecting 107 penalty minutes.
Emmerson has 101 games of junior experience in the Western Hockey League with the Tri-City Americans, scoring two points (1g-1a) with 170 penalty minutes.
Young, 23, returns to the Thunder roster after appearing in 17 games for the club in 2006-07 where he tallied four assists in 17 penalty minutes. That year, he became the first player in Thunder history to play in the NHL when he made his debut with the Edmonton Oilers and skated in 15 games for the team, amassing 10 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-1, 191-pound defenseman was originally selected by the Oilers in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and signed an AHL contract during the summer of 2009 with Springfield.
In 169 career games in the AHL with Springfield, Wikes-Barre/Scranton and Milwaukee, Young has tallied 134 penalty minutes and 18 points (3g-15a) and has played in 17 career NHL games for the Oilesr, registering 10 penalty minutes.

The Thunder training camp roster currently stands at 30 players (2 goaltenders, 28 skaters).
The Thunder is scheduled to host "FanFest" on Sunday, Oct. 11 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Stockton Arena, where admission is free to the public.
The Thunder returns to the ice for preseason play on Thursday, Oct. 8 against the Bakersfield Condors, starting at 7:00 p.m. at Stockton Arena. The 2009-10 season, the Fifth Year Anniversary for the team, launches on Friday, Oct. 16 at Qwest Arena against the Idaho Steelheads at 6:10 p.m. and the Thunder home opener is Friday, Oct. 23 against the Ontario Reign at 7:30 p.m. at Stockton Arena.
The Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine, has led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew 223,854 fans to Stockton Arena in 2008-09.
