Salmon Kings Receive Goaltender Shantz

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have received goaltender David Shantz from the Abbotsford Heat (AHL).

The Burlington, Ontario native is under AHL contract to the Heat and joins the Salmon Kings after spending the 2008-09 campaign split between the ECHL's Dayton Bombers and Elmira Jackals as well as the AHL's Rochester Americans. The majority of Shantz's season was spent in Dayton where he accumulated a 10-9-3 record with a goals against average of 3.12 and save percentage of 0.896. In 11 games as a Jackal Shantz posted a 5-4-1 record to go along with a 2.88 goals against average and 0.887 save percentage. The goaltender also participated in 12 games in the AHL with Rochester tallying a 3-6-2 record to coincide with a 0.923 save percentage and 2.61 goals against average. Shantz also earned a shutout as a member of each of the three teams he played for in 2008-09.

The 6-1, 207 lb. Shantz has produced a 44-42-11 record in 105 career professional games played along with a goals against average of 3.30, a save percentage of 0.896, and three shutouts. These career numbers are comprised of a 39-25-8 record in the ECHL and a 5-17-3 mark in the AHL.

Prior to turning professional Shantz spent three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Mississauga Ice Dogs and Peterborough Petes. His best OHL season came in 2005-06 in Peterborough where he amassed a 31-14-3 record in 49 games played while earning a goals against average of 2.87 and save percentage of 0.915. He also collected two shutouts. For his junior career Shantz played 119 games with a record of 62-42-10 in addition to a save percentage of 0.912, a goals against average of 2.87, and three shutouts.
