December 3, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins will conduct a first-of-its-kind event, "The Great Skate," at the Rosa Parks Ice Rink in downtown Grand Rapids from noon on Sunday, Dec. 8 until noon on Monday, Dec. 9. Every Griffins player and coach, along with General Manager Bob McNamara, will take a turn skating for at least one hour with fans, to raise money for the Grand Rapids Griffins Youth Foundation.
This inaugural fundraiser will feature music, raffles and special events around the clock. Complimentary snacks will also be available, including Starr Puff Donuts, courtesy of Meijer, and coffee, provided by Starbucks.
There is no admission fee, but fans are encouraged to make a $5 donation to the Griffins Youth Foundation. Funds raised by the Foundation have provided skates for more than 60,000 skaters at the Rosa Parks Ice Rink and have helped the Foundation organize, sponsor and equip many other youth skating programs, including Girl Scout Hockey and Mary Free Bed Sledge Hockey.
