Dimitrakos Named Rookie of the Month

SPRINGFIELD, MA ... The American Hockey League announced today that Cleveland Barons right wing Niko Dimitrakos has been named the AHL Rookie of the Month for November. In 14 games, Dimitrakos scored five goals and added 11 assists for 16 points as the Barons jockeyed for positioning in the Western Conference standings.
With Cleveland scoring 40 goals as a team during November, Dimitrakos had a hand in 40 percent of the team's offense. He recorded five multiple-point efforts on the month, including two goals and two assists at Syracuse on Nov. 27 and three assists against Milwaukee on Nov. 30. Dimitrakos tallied three power play goals and one game-winning marker, and led all Barons in goals, points and shots on goal (38) in November.
In recognition of his accomplishment, Dimitrakos will be presented with an etched crystal trophy by the AHL prior to an upcoming game.
A native of Somerville, Mass., Dimitrakos was drafted by San Jose in 1999 and is coming off a stellar four-year career at the University of Maine. He helped the Black Bears to two NCAA championship games, winning the title in 1999 and earning a berth on that year's All-Tournament team. In 23 games with Cleveland this season, the 23-year-old Dimitrakos leads the club with 17 assists and 26 points, totals which also rank first among all AHL rookies.
Other players nominated for AHL Rookie of the Month for October include Cincinnati center Tony Martensson, Grand Rapids center Rob Collins, Hamilton center Jarret Stoll, Lowell left wing Ryan Bayda, Manchester center Jared Aulin, Manitoba left wing Jason King, Milwaukee left wing Darren Haydar, Norfolk left wing Igor Radulov, Providence right wing Martin Samuelsson, Rochester goaltender Ryan Miller, Saint John center Matt Lombardi, Springfield center Jeff Taffe, St. John's center Brad Boyes, Syracuse goaltender Karl Goehring and Worcester center John Pohl.
