Sacramento River Cats News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - A.J. Griffin tossed his second-straight complete game Wednesday-a feat never before accomplished in River Cats history-leading Sacramento to a 6-1 win over the Fresno Grizzlies at Chukchansi Park.
Griffin threw 72 of his 93 pitches for strikes, fanning six Grizzlies batters without issuing a walk. He scattered six hits and allowed just a first-inning run, improving to 2-2 on the season and lowering his ERA to 2.78. The big right-hander induced 14 ground-ball outs in the game.
The Cats offense provided more than enough support, hitting four home runs. Grant Green, Wes Timmons, Stephen Parker and Anthony Recker all went deep for Sacramento, accounting for five of its six runs.
Fresno starter Brian Burres (4-5) suffered the defeat, allowing five earned runs and all four River Cat long balls.
Recker was the lone Sacramento batter with a multi-hit night, recording three of the River Cats' six hits. Green's first-inning homer extended his season-high hitting streak to nine games.
Sacramento returns home on Thursday for an eight-game homestand against Tacoma and Fresno. The homestand opener is set for 7:05 p.m. at Raley Field, and is a Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday featuring a Salute to the Red, White & Blue presented by the U.S. Army. For Thursday's game-as well as the games on July 2 and July 3-all active-duty and retired military personnel will qualify for discounted tickets. Fans are encouraged to call (916) 371-HITS for details.
In Thursday's homestand opener, Sacramento's Tyson Ross (2-1, 2.45 ERA) is the scheduled starter against Tacoma RHP Andrew Carraway (2-2, 3.41 ERA).
