Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Round Rock, Tex. - Brandon Barnes drove in four runs and Scott Moore went 4-for-4 with two RBIs as the Oklahoma City RedHawks (40-27) won their series opener over the Round Rock Express (29-39) 10-6 Thursday night before 7,974 at The Dell Diamond.
Moore knocked an RBI single in the first to give the RedHawks the early lead. Barnes followed with a three-run homer-his first since joining the RedHawks-the next inning to make it 4-0.
Leading 4-1 in the fifth, Moore collected his second RBI single to extend the lead back to four. The RedHawks then piled on three runs in the sixth, all with two out. Barnes singled home a run, and Mike Hessman knocked a two-run single later in the inning.
Leonys Martin hit a two-run homer in the seventh for Round Rock to make it 8-3. The Express scored three more times in the eighth and even had the tying runners on with two outs, but Enerio Del Rosario got Matt Kata to ground out to end the rally.
The RedHawks caught some breaks in the ninth to cushion their lead. With the bases load and two outs, there was a passed ball and a wild pitch on consecutive pitches to score two runs and make it 10-6.
Del Rosario ensured there would be no rally in the ninth and finished the game for his first save of the year.
Making a spot start, Sergio Perez went the first 3.2 innings and allowed one run. Adalberto Flores (4-0) followed with 2.1 hitless frames to earn the win.
Although the RedHawks outhit the Express 14-7, the pitching staff set a new season high by walking nine Round Rock hitters.
Round Rock starter endured another rough night against the RedHawks, allowing seven runs and nine hits over 5.2 innings. In two starts against Oklahoma City this season, Ramirez (6-7) has allowed 13 runs.
The RedHawks and Express meet again at 7:05 p.m. Friday night at The Dell Diamond. Live coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on AM 1340 The Game, 1340thegame.com, or through the IHeartRadio app on your mobile device.
