Zephyrs Drop First Game of Trip in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Memphis first basemen Jamie Romak delivered a two run triple in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie to deliver the Redbirds a 4-2 victory. Redbirds starter John Gast pitched six and two thirds innings allowed two runs on four hits and earned the win. Gast allowed two first inning runs and then retired 16 of the final 18 batters he faced for his third Triple A win.

Mike Cervenak got the Zephyrs off to a terrific start, he drilled a two run double in the first inning to give the Zephyrs an early 2-0 lead.

Memphis answered with a run in the bottom of the first and three runs in the fifth inning.

New Orleans starter Brad Hand allowed four runs in five innings and walked six batters in the defeat. Gary Glover pitched two innings of scoreless relief for the Z's and struck-out five batters.

Three Memphis relievers pitched the final two and third innings and Adam Reifer picked up his second save pitching a perfect ninth.
