
Morman Named to PCL All-Star Coaching Staff

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno Grizzlies hitting coach Russ Morman has been named a coach for the 2012 Pacific Coast League All-Star Team, Triple-A Baseball announced today. The PCL All-Stars will face their counterparts in the International League at the 25th Annual Triple-A All-Star Game on July 11th at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, New York, home of the IL's Buffalo Bisons.
Morman, 50, is in his second year as the Grizzlies hitting coach. Under Morman, Fresno ranks tied for fourth in the PCL this season with a team batting average of.289. They are also fifth in the league in on-base percentage.
Morman is the third coach in Grizzlies history to serve as a member of the PCL All-Star coaching staff. Mike Hart (2002) and Joel Horlen (1999) were the previous two.
The Independence, Missouri native is in third year in the San Francisco Giants organization after spending seven years in the Boston Red Sox organization. He was the hitting coach for Boston's Triple-A affiliate in Pawtucket (2008-09) and Double-A affiliate in Portland (2004-07). Morman has also served as a manager in three different seasons during his coaching career, including the 2001 season in which he guided the Single-A Kane County Cougars to a Midwest League Championship. He was named the Midwest League Manager of the Year in2001 as well.
The former Major Leaguer was originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox in thefirst round of the 1983 Draft out of Wichita State University. Morman, who played first base and outfield in his playing career, played for the Buffalo Bisons in the 1985, 1986 and 1993 seasons.
Joining Morman on the PCL coaching staff are Marty Brown of the Las Vegas 51s and Blaise Ilsley of the Memphis Redbirds. Brown will serve as the PCL manager.
Columbus' Mike Sarbaugh will lead the IL's All-Star team, and Pawtucket's Arnie Beyeler and Ryne Sandberg of Lehigh Valley will join him on the coaching staff.
The IL and PCL All-Star teams will be announced on June 27th and 28th, respectively.
