Greensboro Wins Third Straight over Legends, 8-2

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) Brent Keys had three hits, including a three-run double in the fourth inning as the Greensboro Grasshoppers defeated the Lexington Legends 8-2 Wednesday afternoon.

The Grasshoppers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a leadoff single by Josh Adams and a two-out double by Ryan McIntyre.

Lexington moved in front with two runs in the top of the fourth. Delino DeShields Jr. doubled with one out and scored on a single by Jordan Scott. After Scott's hit, Zach Johnson and Matt Duffy both walked to load the bases. Jay Austin struck out for the second out, and Mike Kvasnicka also fanned, but on strike three, the ball got past catcher Tony Caldwell, and Scott scored on the passed ball to give the Legends a 2-1 lead.

Greensboro took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth. Legends starter Luis Ordosgoitti retired the first two hitters, but McIntyre singled, and Caldwell and Ryan Goetz walked, loading the bases. Keys, the South Atlantic League's leading hitter, drilled a double into the right field corner, scoring all three runners. With three hits in five at-bats, Keys raised his average to .362.

Matt Smith hit a two-run homer for Greensboro in the fifth inning to make the score 6-2, and the Grasshoppers added two runs in the sixth. Goetz reached on an error by second baseman DeShields and moved to second on a single by Keys. Austin Barnes singled to right field, and Goetz scored and Keys moved to third as Austin bobbled the ball in right field for an error. Keys scored the final run as

Aaron Senne grounded into a force play at second base.

James Nygren (4-1), who relieved starter Austin Brice at the start of the fifth inning, worked three innings and got the win. Ordosgoitti (1-3) took the loss.

Greensboro has won the first three games in the series, which concludes Thursday night. Game time is 7 p.m.
