Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets scored nine of their 12 runs with two outs in their respective inning to win their second game of three against the Asheville Tourists. Their 12-5 victory on Wednesday night is Augusta's fifth in the first seven games to open the second half.

Augusta has now won all five games in the second half where they scored first - a trend that continued on Wednesday as the GreenJackets scored three times in the first inning to jump out to a 3-0 advantage. Jesus Galindo walked, stole second and then took third on a wild pitch before scoring on Kelby Tomlinson's RBI groundout to put the GreenJackets on the board. With Shawn Payne aboard on a walk, Jose Flores connected on a 3-2, two-out offering from Vianney Mayo for his first home run this year as a GreenJacket - a two-run shot that put the GreenJackets ahead 3-0.

The Tourists would rally against Augusta starter Clayton Blackburn in the second and third innings though to tie the game at three. Jose Rivera's RBI groundout in the second put Asheville on the board while the Tourists tied it in the third on Joey Wong's RBI single and a Blackburn balk that brought the tying run home.

The game wouldn't stay tied for long though as the GreenJackets scored the game's next nine runs to take a commanding lead. Ben Thomas broke the 3-3 tie in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run - his third of the season - to give the GreenJackets a 5-3 edge. In the sixth, the GreenJackets scored five times on six hits to go up by seven runs. Galindo and Tomlinson each singled home a run, Thomas singled home two and Flores doubled home the fifth to put the GreenJackets on top 10-3. Augusta added two more in the seventh on Galindo's two-run single. The Tourists got two runs back on a window-dressing score - Jared Simon's two-run homer that brought the score to 12-5.

Blackburn (5-2) won his fourth straight start and fifth in his last seven starts with six solid innings. He allowed three runs - two earned - on eight hits and a walk while striking out five. Blackburn has struck out five or more in all but two of his 13 starts this year.

Geoff Parker (1-3) took the loss in relief for the Tourists, allowing Thomas's homer during his three-inning relief stint.

The GreenJackets are 15-6 since the Tourists swept them in a four-game series in Asheville at the beginning of June. They'll look to win their second straight series to open the second half on Thursday with Chris Marlowe (1-4, 3.40) taking the mound against Tyler Anderson (5-2, 3.42) on another Thirsty Thursday, presented by The Library. Fans can enjoy dollar soft drinks and draft beers throughout the night. First pitch comes at 7:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1340 AM and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
