Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 27, 2012) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators jumped in front early and held on when the Hickory Crawdads threatened late for a 5-3 win on Wednesday afternoon at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.
Starter Ryan Buch (2-0) spun five scoreless innings, scattering seven hits while striking out five to earn the win in his first start with Kannapolis. Closer Bryan Blough entered a three-run game in the eighth inning with the bases loaded and one out, surrendering a sac- fly but striking out the next batter to get Kannapolis out of a jam. Blough plunked the leadoff batter in the ninth but retired the next three for a five-out save (6).
Kannapolis struck for two runs in the second inning. Martin Medina led off with a single to run his hitting streak to nine games, and he moved to second when Andrew Douglas was hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Ross Wilson doubled home Medina to break a scoreless tie, and Grant Buckner followed with a sac-fly to cash Douglas. The Intimidators added a run in the third when Rangel Ravelo scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead.
Hickory starter Kevin Matthews (1-2) took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts in four innings.
Ravelo led the Intimidators offense, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Wilson's double pushed his hitting streak to 10 games, his second double-digit streak of the season.
The Intimidators wrap up this four-game series against the Crawdads on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. as LHP Matt Lane faces Hickory's RHP Jerad Eickhoff. For ticket information, call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
