The Intimidators (4-2, 37-39) got out to a quick start, plating a pair in the bottom of the second inning against LHP Kevin Matthews (L, 1-2). C Martin Medina led off with a base hit and moved to second when CF Andrew Douglas was hit by a pitch. One out later, 2B Ross Wilson drove an RBI double, before LF Grant Buckner placed a sacrifice fly to right field, making it 2-0.
Kannapolis added a third run in the third, before Hickory (5-2, 41-35) got on the board in the top of the sixth inning. 3B Drew Robinson sparked the stanza with a single, advancing to second on a base hit by LF Jeremy Williams. A fielder's choice off the bat of 2B Alejandro Selen moved Robinson to third, before C Kellin Deglan drove him home on an RBI sacrifice fly, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
After the Intimidators stretched the lead back out with tallies in the sixth and seventh frames, the Crawdads attempted a top of the eighth inning comeback. Sardinas advanced to third on a fly out to center, and then sprinted home on a wild pitch that also moved Robinson to second. A Selen single and a Deglan walk loaded the bases for C Kevin Torres, who skied an RBI sacrifice fly to center, plating Robinson to bring the 'Dads within two runs of tying it, 5-3.
